If you try that on the main launcher, I don't think it works because you end up running the launcher/menu as admin, but when you navigate through and start game from the menus, it doesn't start as admin. At the middle or bottom you want to change permissions to allow full control.Īlternately, if you are using the direct connect to the game exe, you can right click your shortcut and click to run as administrator and that should fix it too. Go to the security tab and find your user in the list and click it. To fix without reinstalling it into the x86 folder, go to the c:\ and right click neverwinter nights folder and do porperties. By default, NWN Diamond installs directly to C:\ and windows 10 won't let it write the config files and stuff. To avoid these problems with "older" software, they should be installed in c:\program files (x86) which is reserved for exactly this purpose. But NWN, by default, needs it to be in your My Documents, not OneDrive My Documents, and since it's not automatically setting it there because of OneDrive nothing is happening when you try playing because there's no data being retrieved by the game.Short version of the long answer is that windows 10 locks down the ability to "write" files unless they are in specific directories. What I think is happening is that when you first linked your OneDrive it may have asked you which folders you wanted to sync, and by default it may have been all your "My" folders (My Documents, My Pictures, My Videos, etc.), so anything that, by default, is normally saved into your "My" folders is now going to your "OneDrive My" folder so you can access them anytime. Once you unlink it and reinstall NWN the installation should automatically put in the folder in your My Documents and not the OneDrive, then verify the game runs and re-link your OneDrive account. You can re-link your account after you install Neverwinter Nights again, and you should also be able to set the settings to properly sync the folders you want or don't want to sync. Its a night and day difference, and there is zero benefit to the current control scheme, that was developed long before mouse controls ina 3d environment had any sort of standard. In the Accounts tab click on Unlink this PC. Allso, if you 'dont know what im talking about' install Neverwinter(the MMO) and check it out. In your toolbar where the icons/time/date normally is (bottom right usually) there's a OneDrive icon that looks like a cloud, click on that and go to Settings. I hope this is the same problem/solution anyway.īut how I'm pretty sure I fixed this was to unlink your OneDrive account from your computer. I've had this problem a long, long time ago so my answer is going to come from a bit of a fogged memory. Based upon what you just said I d recommend you start a steam ticket as well since this sounds as like to a problem with steam as much as beam dog. I even tried creating a Neverwinter Night folder on my Documents folder manually, but it didn't help. Neverwinter Nights is the first game where I'm facing such a problem. I've clocked in 17 hours because of this and I've played 0 minutes :/ I've also run the 'verify the integrity of your Steam files' for NWN as well, no luck, no change, game still shows as playing on Steam library, nothing appears on screen and when I press "Stop" on the Steam page, it doesn't stop and I have to sign out of windows or restart. The one one OneDrive has 1 GB free, so I can't imagine it would need more space for a folder with saves and such.Įdit: Just a bit of additional information, I also have Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition by Beamdog and it has installed normally about 3 weeks ago: I can see a Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition folder in my Documents (the one in OneDrive) and I've played about an hour of it as well, runs normally. I do have 2 Documents folders on my Device, one on OneDrive and a second one directly in my local user folder.
