Petal steam distillation produces rose water and rose oil 2000 petals yield a mere drop of rose oil. It is the national flower of Iran and has been called the 'Flower of the Prophet Mohammad.' The use of rose oil dates back to ancient Persia. An article documenting this trip, Collecting Roses in China, was written for The Rosebank Letter in January 15, 1998. The Damask rose, Rosa damascena, dates back to 900 BC. The following roses were collected in northern China in 1997 by an expedition which included Campbell Davidson of the Morden Research Station in Morden, Manitoba.
